This promo mixset is a sampler of the slower stuff I like to play as Tao Jones. It’s basically a condensed version fo the hour and a half to two hours I normally play. It starts off all chunky and hiphop, gets glitchy, rages it, catches it’s breath, and then get’s all wobbly in the low end. The last track I probably wouldn’t play at an event unless it was really appropriate, but it’s one of my favourite songs ever so I thought I’d share it with you.

I feel like since it’s nearing winter it’s time to get some more chill vybzz back on the bog again. So here is a little bit of probably the most chill music I listen to. I normally listen to it when I fall asleep. But I have been listening to it more frequently. Anyways, here it is. Weathertunes…

Nujabes is a japanese hip hop producer and dj who records under the name Nujabes. The alias is an anagramof his first and last name spelled backwards and combined. Alongside making music, Nujabes is also owner of the Shibuya record stores, T Records and Guinness Records and founder of the independent label Hyde-Out Productions. Nujabes’s genre-blending music style is known for a strong cool jazz and soul influence. He most typically uses samples from artists such as Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, and Yusef Lateef and adds live instrumentation to create warm, mellow tracks. Despite his role as DJ, Nujabes rarely plays live and does not make many media appearances, which adds to his enigmatic charisma. This trait extends into his album covers, all of which express a particular distinct, abstract imagery. Nujabes has released two albums in Japan, Metaphorical Music in 2003 and Modal Soul in 2005. Specifically, Metaphorical Music sold over 20,000 copies by 2004, an unheard-of amount for an independent release.

Richard Dorfmeister & Rupert Huber were both school chums and shared the same interests in music. Dorfmeister teamed up with Peter Kruder to form Kruder & Dorfmeister and because they never made any studio albums Dorfmeister and Huber got together to form Tosca. Their first album “Opera” was based around NYC street blues samples and deep basslines, and the tracks Fuck Dub & Chocolate Elvis spawned many remixes from the likes of Boozoo Bajou, Fila Brazillia or Baby Mammoth. Their 2000 release “Suzuki” explored the lighter side of blunted Trip Hop with smooth synth textures most notably Orozco, Boss on the Boat and Ocean Beat. Dehli9 is probably Tosca’s least popular album but is the first to have some real vocals. There is also a second disc containing warped piano recordings. The album J.A.C is Tosca’s more friendly album with Jazzy tracks like Heidi Bruehl & Superrob. Their last album “Romana” is a tribute to Italian music. This is an unofficial ”Best of” compiled in 2002.
