This promo mixset is a sampler of the slower stuff I like to play as Tao Jones. It’s basically a condensed version fo the hour and a half to two hours I normally play. It starts off all chunky and hiphop, gets glitchy, rages it, catches it’s breath, and then get’s all wobbly in the low end. The last track I probably wouldn’t play at an event unless it was really appropriate, but it’s one of my favourite songs ever so I thought I’d share it with you.

Lunice
Lunice is just that dude.
Anyone who has seen this charismatic shy guy come to life on stage will testify that he is the truth. It was just over a year ago that Lunice started bumping his own beats at the Bass Culture + Turbo Crunk nights, and in that short amount of time the music he creates has come full circle, from a burgeoning hiphop producers bedroom, to a deep current club sound, and settling somewhere right in the middle, with a twist of blips and soundclips.
The cross section of people that get open to his music is astounding, his live show instantly allows people to see how much love he has for the beats he makes and his motivation for doing them. He has juice. Lunice loves to make people get down to it.
In a short amount of time Lunice became the anchor for the Turbo Crunk events, playing earlier slots with a bit slower beats, and bringing it up to pace for a full night of remix music. It is in fact a very tough job for most DJs, but an exceptional task to do well by any producer. Lunice taxes crowds and leaves them wanting more.
Recently signed to the Codeine Drum label (for a collab project between himself and Al Ripken) all we can really say is to keep your ear open for him. Dude is doing those big things already.
You can catch Lunice as a resident at Turbo Crunk.

In just two years our young dude Philippe Aubin-Dionne (a.k.a. Hovatron) has graduated from learning industry ‘ins’ at the Ninjatune stockroom to being heralded as Montreals answer to the hipster jumpoff (or as we call it, the runoff.). Drawing deep musical influence from (and also chopping up / reworking) sideways boombap to southern drank music to dubstep and techno, his tripped out live sets and strong work ethic have made a bass heavy sound that is winning over fans and building a strong anticipation for his first record to be released.
Hovatron was the PA side of Mofomatronix, a versatile DJ team that ran the Bass Culture monthly at the famed Zoobizarre venue, which in turn helped break some of the best sounds in the city, and which also brought out many serious DJs and PA shows before joining forces with the Turbo Crunk team last year. Look for big things from Phil.
Mofomatronix continues as a DJ team while Hovatron works on his ever expanding PA arsenal. His new mixtape is fire. You should check it out.
Megasoid was born out of the ashes of a burnt-up modular synth borrowed in a coffee line, followed by a summer of mobile partying in a shitty van with a DIY Mojito stand that produced: 1) a drank-soaked machinedrum (RIP), 2) some mangled computers (RIP) and 3) a pair of dudes with intrinsic talent / chemistry / lust for making dirty street-bass remixes.
Comprised of Robert “Speakerbruiser” Squire (ex-Sixtoo/ Sebutones/ 1200hobos) and Hadji “Robert Downey DJ” Bakara (the electronics contingent of Wolf Parade), this notorious Montreal duo has been smashing the local population with their brand of rap-influenced big-synth remix music, leaving a trail of bruised PAs and broken beer glasses in its path. Megasoid remixes and mixtapes have garnished serious attention and praise from highbrow music critics and reputable DJs alike, while their illegal parties are legendary. Google it.
While promoting for / remixing for / working exclusively with an A-list of taste-maker producers and rappers from Europe and North America, Megasoid has put the Northeast on smashmode, making their nights a home for producer friends worldwide. Their leaked tracks and remixes have built a serious anticipation for their first album now in the works. In the meanwhile, expect some of their legit remix work to surface before the album’s release on Ninja Tune.
“I played this remix so many times that I eventually listed it as my favorite song of 2007.” - Sasha Frere Jones (The New Yorker) talking about Megasoid’s “No More Blood” remix for Ghislain Poirier.
Moving from street/loft parties where they cut their gold-fronts to large capacity clubs (which they’ve occasionally been known to get kicked out of), Megasoid’s Turbo Crunk parties in Toronto and Montreal have quickly become one of the livest and most notorious franchises in North America. In turn, Montreal has become one of the few cities with a legit scene for street-bass music.
The list of people who have appeared alongside Megasoid is starting to read like a “Who’s Who” of top-shelf producers and DJs: GlitchMob (edIT and Boretta), Lucky Me (Hudmo, Rustie, Mike Slott and Dom Sum), Ed Banger (Medhi, Busy P), Dj Assault, DJ Funk, Holy Fuck, South Rakkas Crew, Machinedrum, Deadbeat, Lorn, Mofomatronix, Lunice, Blingmod, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing, Big Toe’s HiFi, 215, Mouse on Mars, Thunderheist, The Cool Kids, Jokers of the Scene, Bonjay, PeerPressue, Kid Koala, KnifeHandChop and Modeselektor. Just to name a few.
Megasoid are currently working on a full length LP which will be ready for consumption next summer, in the meanwhile you can check out the two mixtapes they have release this year “Remix Runners” and “Tank Thong”, chocked full of their favorite remix material, compiled from PA + remix sets.

This CD is a showcase of the Muti Music production-based roster as well as emerging talent. Moving from midtempo grooves, to crunky ‘Glitch Hop’ and onwards to soundscapes and IDM bliss. Many of the artists known for their harder breakbeat or electro take on a midtempo good-vibe feel. From the gorgeous ambiance of Kraddy’s ‘Little Girl Prodigy’ to the quirky swing beat of Dov’s ‘Priceless’, Ooah and Vibesquad also showing why they recently have had many label offers, the artists included on this CD really show where their production values can take them.
Just found a lot of these off The Lowdown from BillK and others and also found some n my own. Some really good glitch hop / hip-hop / instrumental hip-hop / electronica:

Wowee wow wow, it has been a minute and lots has happened. Here we go…
We would like to thank everyone who entered the contest to play the show with us at Mighty this Friday in SF. There was an unexpectedly large response and so much good music to choose. You guys did not make our job easy. Without further adieu, the winner is……..
Salva from San Francisco. More info at his myspace.
This guy is ready to throw down some serious bass. He will be performing from 930-1030 in the main room so get there early! A special late addition Blingmod from Montreal will be gracing the bassbins as well.
The first full Glitch Mob production has arrived in the form a remix for our friend Nalepa (look below). And it just so happens to be online for free download @ XLR8R. The full quality song will be available in July on the Flatlands remix CD.
In other news, your humble narrators have been buried deep in the laboratory and are preparing to unveil a metric assload of new music this summer. Currently on our web site you can download a free Boreta remix of Jamie Lidell, and an edIT remix of Mochipet.
