Radius - Radiushead
Following cryptic message at ateaseweb.com, one of the longest running Radiohead fan sites, was posted on January 27, 2008: “A mysterious email in the inbox recently, announcing Radiushead: “A project put together by Chicago producer Radius sampling from Kid A and Amnesiac”
It is now available for download and has been approved my Radiohead for distribution, as far as I’ve heard. From what i’ve heard of it so far, its pretty good. I think its going to grow on me. It is not as hip-hopy and upbeat but i like it a lot.
Mike Stroud and Evan Mast first met as Skidmore College students, but they did not work together until they recorded “Cherry” in 2001, a track that later would complete their debut album. The name Ratatat comes from an experience in which Mike saw eight rats tap-dancing while high on LSD. Their 2004 debut, Ratatat was written and recorded in Mast’s Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment on Stroud’s PowerBook.[1] This album is entirely instrumental, except for occasional excerpts of dialog at the beginning and end of some tracks. While touring in 2006, they added a third member, Jacob Morris, on keyboard. Morris is rarely pictured in media photos of the band.
The group started out on the independent label Rex Records, on which they released their first single, Seventeen Years. They released that single again on Evan and his brother’s record label Audio Dregs. They then signed for XL Recordings, releasing their debut album and the single Germany to Germany. Ratatat occasionally remixes other artists’ songs, most notably on their limited 2004 release Ratatat Remixes Vol. 1 (which garnered the attention of Rolling Stone), as well as the later second volume.
On October 10, 2006 a new demo album from Ratatat entitled 9 Beats was leaked online. This new set of tracks does not appear on any official discography listings. The tracks consist of short instrumental electronic musical pieces.[2]

After a cease & desist put the breaks on Amplive’s Radiohead In Rainbows remix project, the online music community reasonably wondered if the tracks would ever see the light of day. Well, here they are.
While the Oakland producer/DJ acknowledges that he probably should have contacted Radiohead (who were not involved in the project) to seek approval prior to making his interpretations publically available, an agreement has been reached between all involved parties and Amplive has been granted permission to release Rainydayz Remixes for free to the general public. Effective immediately, the eight-track record is available here.
Rainydayz Remixes is composed exclusively of source material pulled from In Rainbows, re-envisioned by Amplive and complimented by vocal work from Too $hort, MC Zumbi of Zion I, Chali2na of Jurassic 5, Codany Holiday, and Del The Funky Homosapien.
“Wow. from beginning to end, absolutely bumpin and beautiful. Straight slayin crouds but also as the smooth sounds of the soul. You gotta download this album, trust me.” -Paul Bonasera
“The Bay Area producer (Akon,Talib Kweli)/half of Zion I has scrapped together a project dubbed Rainydayz Remixes, culling six IR cuts and chopping ‘em up, spiking the punch with varying degrees of embellishments. “Weird Fishes” stays true to the original’s arc — one groove, one progression; slowly grooving, slowly progressing — spiced up with a fake finish, some Thom tinkering and a Radiohead-meets-Neptunes-enhanced-JT beat. Ain’t nobody love you like I love you, etc.” - Stereogum
“Wow. California MC Amplive slices and dices a (let’s face it, kind of bloodless) new Radiohead song and turns it into a sleek and simmering hip-hop track. If more of In Rainbows sounded like this, we might not feel so chapped about shelling out for the discbox.” - Rollingstone.com
“Why can’t hip-hop and indie rock values segue together as gracefully, as artfully, as Oakland DJ-producer Amplive’s trip-hop–tinged remix of “Nude,” a suturing together of his group Zion I’s “Don’t Lose Ya Head” and Radiohead’s ethereal hum, with classic Yay touches of Too $hort?” - SF Bay Guardian
“Rainydaze Remixes is most effective when it is at its boldest, accelerating the dreary original of ‘All I Need’ into hard-nosed trip hop punctuated by stabbing brass, or transforming ‘Weird Fishes’ into a gentle drift downstream.” - Guardian UK
“One standout track from the project is “Weird Fishes,” which Amplive has transformed from a synthesizer-and-guitar odyssey into an ominous electro-trance expedition. Some other strong tracks feature guests: The pimp-rap specialist Too $hort enlivens a bass-boosted “Nude,” and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien triples the verbiage on “Videotape.”" - New York Times

Got a new post below dedicated to my man Rich Beaver who first introduced me to Taskforce. Miss ya man. Also check out the new videos (part 1 and 2) of a live set of Pretty Lights on the “Look at All The Pretty Lights” post, at the bottom of the post, really cool shit. Also more downloads added to the download page! (RJD2!).
Task Forceis an undergroundBritish hip hop group from Highbury in London, England. The group is led primarily by two brothers Chester P (vocals, song writing and occasional music production) and Farma G (vocals, song writing and music production). However, the Task Force family, according to Chester P, also includes DJ Louis Slipperz (music production), Ramson BadBones (vocals and songwriting), Remus, D.Molish, Inja (MC, Delegates of Culture, Cambridge), Calculus, Merkamillion, Blinks, and Marley. Task Force officially formed in 1999, releasing their debut album New Mic Order.
Task Force’s debut album, New Mic Order, was produced by Mark B and features guest appearances from fellow Mud Family member Skinnyman and Mr. Thing of the Scratch Perverts. Task Force’s releases have consisted for the most part of vinyl-only EPs and singles. In 2000, Task Force released Voice of the Great Outdoors, which featured Braintax and Jehst, on Braintax’s Low Life Records. Task Force started their own label, Music from the Corner, in 2001, and released of Music from the Corner Volume 1. A darker, more intense series of predominantly self-produced albums followed.Task Force is currently working on Music from the Corner Volume 5 and both Chester P and Farma G are currently working on solo projects.
This guy is crazy good and an amazing musician. He uses whats called a monome to create his music. A monome is a small Philadelphia-based hardware company that makes controllers for electronic music performance and new media art. Their first product, 40h, is an eight-by-eight grid of backlit buttons, which connects to a PC using a USB cable and the OpenSound Control protocol. Originally developed as an open ended performance interface for electronic music. Check out the live youtube show below and you will see how it’s used. It’s pretty cool and very interesting.
One of L.A.’s most daring producers, Daedelus weaves together a true “love-sound” that falls between honeyed melodies and avant-electronics He chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of staggering resonance. Contrasting IDM styled cut-ups with childlike arrangements from the 30s and 40s, he has refined a style that has no imitators. Exactly the kind of music you’d expect from a scarily well-connected hip hop nut who happens to dress in Edwardian clothing and names himself after an Ancient Greek Legend.
The Daedelus live show, which utilizes a custom-built trigger device called the Monome, has amazed audiences across the world, and secured his reputation as one of the most exciting live artists in electronic music. In 2007, Alpha Pup Records invited Daedelus to perform at their infamous Low End Theory weekly club in Los Angeles, and recorded the performance. Now, for the first time ever, the live Daedelus experience is available on CD and for digital download. The release is appropriately titled Live at Low End Theory. With a body of work including releases through Mush, Plug Research, Hefty, Tigerbeat6, Eastern Developments, and Ninja Tune, Daedelus’ rep is long since established. Electronic music fans worldwide rejoice!
And there’s definitely a collective at work here, Daedelus’ trademark musicality running up against a slather of maverick talent from the worlds of hip hop and beyond. The performances range from traditional (MF Doom, Sci from Scienz of Life) to poetic (Mike Ladd, CYNE, Laura Darling) to experimental (Prefuse 73, Hrishikesh Hirway of The One AM Radio, TTC, Jogger), but Daedelus moulds the seemingly disparate elements of sound with a single-minded vision.
With a body of work including releases through Mush, Plug Research, Hefty, Tigerbeat6, and Eastern Developments, Daedelus’ rep is long since established. At last he has given us the record about which journalists can use the word “surreal” without being lazy. And for this alone we must all be thankful.
Two of my favorite musicians from Columbus for sure. Bizzy Bone anddddd, whos the second one? could you guess by the pic? None other than… RJD2. Bizzy Bone for me is definitly my favorite Bone Thug. His lyrics are spiritually loaded and the most thoughtfull versus that come straight from his heart out through his words. He inspires me immensly. Also, RJD2 is of course the most well known DJ from Columbus. His beats are like nobody else’s and his shit never gets old. Columbus Thugginit’. lol nice made up word Zak. Bryon Anthony McCane II (born on September 12, 1976, in Columbus, Ohio), better known by his stage name Bizzy Bone, is an American rapper, who achieved popularity as a member of the Cleveland rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
Bizzy Bone started in hip-hop as a founding member of the Cleveland rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Formed in 1993, and release a underground album under the name B.O.N.E. Enterpri$e.
The unique sound of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony prompted multi-platinum record sales, won them a Grammy in 1997, [1] and brought the spotlight to the relatively unknown midwestern hip-hop community.
In 1997, Bizzy Bone left Bone for reasons unknown to the public at the time, but later came forward with the issue of dealing with the death of his stepfather,[citation needed] Byron Carlos. The first notable appearance that he was missing from the group came when Bone released the video for “The Days of Our Livez” from the Set It Off Soundtrack. While Bizzy’s verse is in the song, he was the only member not in the video.
Later, in 2000, after some speculation and rumors of Bizzy Bone’s split from the group, they released “Ressurection: Paper, Paper” as a single from their album “BNTHRessurection,” their first album in years since “The Art of War” in 1997. In the video Bizzy is seen reading a newspaper with a front page article about the groups rumored split, which he tosses to the ground and shakes his head. This album in 2000 marked his return to the group.
In 2001, Bizzy released his second major solo album, and his last while being in Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. The album was entited The Gift under the label AMC. Darren Vega, Hoton, JT Thomas, and Tony C had assisted in production of the album.
In 2006, Bizzy signed a three-album deal with major record label, Virgin Records & After Platinum Records. EMI merged Virgin and Capitol Records in February of 2007 to form the Capitol Music Group. With this merger, Bizzy will see promotional and marketing help from both Virgin and Capitol Records, as well as EMI’s urban artist development and large-scale independent label Imperial Records.
Bizzy recorded the album with After Platinum Records, who are manning the production for the album. The album boasts guest appearances by fellow After Platinum artist Chris Notez (R&B Singer), Twista, DMX, Jim Jones, Trina, Good Charlotte and new R&B singer Honey.

Pretty lights is composed of Michal Menert and Derek Smith from Fort Collins, Colorado. Pretty Lights is an umbrella. under this umbrella stands a shifting collective personality. sometimes two lights shine, sometimes three lights glow. they emit a strong mechanical hum that fills the emptiness provided by time and divided by imagination. they manipulate the world around, illuminating the dark into a breathing electronic cityscape, casting shadow that carve dusty yesterday into a reanimated paradise. The Pretty Lights album “Taking Up Your Precious Time” was produced by Derek Smith and Michal Menert. Considered the debut PL album, TUYPT was released online for free download in the fall of 2006 and in the first year was downloaded over 5000 times across the globe. Since the release of TUYPT, Michal & Derek have been working on different projects, intending to explore new visions and satisfy their thirst for musical diversity. Michal is currently working on an ep with singer Ben O’neil aka Notthesame under the monkier “The Years”, which is due to be released sometime in 08. In the fall of 07, Derek began performing in venues around northern Colorado beside live drummer, Cory Eberhard, with the desire to showcase new solo material intended more for the live setting/dance culture. This combination has pushed the envelope of live electronic music and continues to evolve the sound encompassed by the PL collective. A new album of this material will be released sometime in February/March of this year. (info provided by Pretty Lights MySpace page).
