Today my blog and my group Kan.Dee.Flip got a shout out from our friends Seriously Fierce Productions. Here is the link to the article! Thanks for the shoutout SFP! Hopefully we will get to see some footage soon from the show!
SFP has been waiting to dig deeper into the realm of good music. We decided to capture some footage of two collections of artists perform right here in Athens, OH. iPhonic, a hip-hop/rock band based out of Cleveland, OH, recently pleased the Ohio University students with a rockin’ show at 19 South on 10.23.2009. iPhonic was accompanied on this evening with a glitchy-spinoff curtousy of the “Kan-Dee-Flip” duo eL.esS.Dee (Paul Bono) and eM.Dee.eM.A (Bill Hein) and their music and information can be found here.
The DJs got the early crowd moving and created the right atmosphere for a rocking evening. As the eager fans began to pile in the bar, the iPhonic crew made their appearance. Guitar shredder Matt Gibson brought a unique sound to the band as he incorporated his blues lead guitar with the hip-hop and in-your-face lyrics of Dave DiGregorio and Joe Quebodeaux. Dave D and Joe Q grabbed their mics and hyped up the OU crowd for what was going to be an impressive performance.
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, hold up your drinks because the show is about to get kickin’. The boys began their set with confidence. Adam Smith (bass) maintained a smooth groove that accompanied Ed Planisek on the drums. The show was truely a one-of-a-kind performance. I have yet to be exposed to such an innovative way to play music. The way the band mixed the rock rhythm with hip-hop blew our minds. These guys know how to keep it fresh, keep it real, and truely dig deep into the realm of creativity. Thank you iPhonic for pleasing Athens, OH with a special performance. See more of iPhonic at www.iphonicmusic.com
Normally I do not download DJ E-V’s mixtapes. Not because I don’t like him or anything like that. It’s just because Hip Hop kinda fell out of my spectrum this year and I have been having trouble bringing it back… EV’s new mix helped me recently hear some more hip hop from this year. This year was an alright year for hip hop in my eyes. Blueprint 3 of course was amazing and was the best hip-hop album of the year in my ears. But it still doesn’t even come close to his old stuff (i.e. The Blueprint). Besides that, all that I heard that was worth hearing was Raekwon’s new album, which is decent. And also Mos Def and Black Roc. But I honestly didn’t listen to much… Maybe the reason is because I just didn’t pay attention to it all and was too focused on all the WOMP and GRIME… But in any case, DJ E-V’s new mixtape called, I Run Ohio Pt. 2 is definitely gonna be on my top plays this year. Many of his hardcore fans and listeners were turned away at first by it because it is all 128 bpms, which is a bit faster than normal 90 bpm hip-hop. But as you know, that is my shit right now so I am diggin’ it… There’s my two cents. Here’s the mix. Download above!
The new Valerna EP, Snakes/Ladders comes out tomorrow (Fri., Dec. 18th) in 320kbps on beatport! Thankfully they were nice enough to release both tracks in 190kbps for us to download before it releases, which you can grab below. I don’t know too much about these guys because I am just starting to listen to them. So here is the bio from their webpage. click the beatport link above to buy it!
Los Angeles electro duo, Valerna, is the pet project of hip-hop producers Brett Sorrentino and RJ Buchanan of Sixunder7 productions. Valerna received significant attention from the blogosphere in 2008 when they released their debut 10 song album for free via the internet. They’ve since done remixes for acts like OH SNAP!! & Jen Lasher [a], Pance Party, Wax & EOM, and Das Racist. In April of 2009 the duo signed to the Montreal/Los Angeles based electro label, Tasty Bytes Records
This duo from Los Angeles is all that you would expect from the best of a new generation of producers ready to tear dancefloors all around the world. Catchy but far from pop, clean production but raw sounds, Valerna takes the best from emerging currents of modern dance music and rolls it all into tight tracks perfectly calibrated for blaring sound systems during peak time frenzy.

An anthem for living life at a dizzying pace, but refusing to slow down, obviously influenced by the legendary rock band THE PIXIES, this bootleg was 1 of the secret weapons of almost every show on the Cozza Frenzy tour, and now its yours for free: Happy New Year! There are songs for when your sad, pissed off, cheerful, partying, chillin, face melting, or whatever you are feeling… These tracks are not in a normal top 10 style list either… So click the link above, check em out, and let me know which ones you like best. Erik Hassle is a soul/pop singer and songwriter from Swedan. He is currently touring with pop sensation Little Boots and he is making a big impression on the blogosphere with his two songs, “Hurtful” and “Don’t Bring Flowers”. Each of the songs have been remixed by Plugs and by Penguin Prison which are both download-able and streaming below. Hurtful blew up the charts in Sweden and has propelled his career. His album “Hassle” is set to release on 2009-08-19. As you already know I am not one to take too much time reviewing the music I post and I like to leave it up to you to do that on your own. If I like it a lot. I put it on my blog. Sorry For Partying… So without further adieu… here are the two remixes and some more information on Erik Hassle!
